Which Bra for Which
Wedding Dress?
All the wedding details were a piece
of cake… until you had to choose the perfect lingerie
for your dress!
After trying on what seems like thousands of wedding dresses,
you’ve finally found the perfect one that hides away any
imperfections and flaunts your best qualities.
Now you’re faced with a new challenge–what bra do
I wear with this dress? Should I go strapless or is that too
risky? How will I find a bra that won’t show through the
back? Do I have to buy an expensive corset?
We’ve gone through each of the most popular wedding dress
styles and have chosen lingerie for that gown in both small
and large cup sizes. Now you can rest easy about the lingerie,
and start worrying about the catering!
The Strapless Dress (with high back)
You’re going for the simple and chic look, choosing an
elegant strapless dress to show off your shoulders and that
tan you’ve been working on.
If you’re a smaller cup (A-C), a simple strapless bra
is perfect–our favourite is the “Satin
Jacquard” set from Charnos – it has a delicate
satiny flower motif and comes with matching garter belt and
briefs.
It’s available up to F cup, but for larger sizes (D+),
you may want to skip the strapless bra and choose a long-line
bra or bustier instead.
The extra length of these undergarments will help create more
support for the breast, and will ensure that you’re not
hitching up your bra all through your wedding day!
Brides with a B to D cup can try this long-line bra from Maidenform
which features a “Stay There Power Band” to make
sure it stays in place and doesn’t irritate you.
For
larger cup sizes, the Panache
“Venus” collection is heaven-sent. This merrywidow
is available up to cup size G and comes with every matching
type of lingerie you can think of.
The
Strapped Dress
If your perfect wedding dress has normal straps or an extra-wide
version, you can wear a wide variety of lingerie so it’s
a simple as picking your favourite!
Spoylt’s luxury lingerie is a clear winner in the bridal
category – their beautiful silk creations are both creative
and stunning and will make any bride feel like a million dollars
on her big day.
Cup sizes A to D can wear this stunning “Radiance”
bra which has matching corset-hipsters, regular hipsters, a
babydoll for the wedding night, and even a garter!
For
a splash of luxury in larger sizes, you can turn to British
designers Rigby and Peller for a stunning set available up to
size G. This “Sienna”
set will provide all the support you need for your wedding day--and
will also look amazing on the wedding night.
The
Halterneck Dress
The halterneck style is very flattering to your figure—but
it’s also a tricky style for bras, as wearing a halterneck
strap can be quite uncomfortable if not properly adjusted.
While you could buy a multifunction bra with adjustable straps,
we would recommend you try a bustier with great cup separation
first.
For A-C cups, this simple and chic bustier from Lady
Marlene is perfect– it cuts away around the cups to
provide maximum fullness within your halterneck dress, but will
stay put when you’re having your first dance.
For
D to F cups, try this lovely bustier from Lunaire
(also available in white)–it provides the same separation
as the Lady Marlene bustier, but has extra support built-in
for larger cup sizes. Best of all, it’s cheaper!
The Strapless, Backless Dress
The strapless, backless dress is the ultimate challenge for
brides looking for lingerie–it’s almost impossible
to find a backless, strapless bra.
So you’ll need to use long-line bras and even bra converters
to suit this chic style.
This satin
bustier is perfect–it creates support along the cups,
but dips down into a low V along the back so you can show off
your shoulders. It’s available for cup sizes B to D, and
will match your chic dress perfectly.
For
larger cup sizes, Panache
is again our favourite brand, providing a long-line bustier
that’s available to an E but dips in the back for your
gown.
If you’ve got your heart set on a backless, strapless
bra, try this cheap bra
converter to see if your favourite strapless bra will work
for you. The converter hooks into your bras regular hooks, and
wraps around your waist to create the backless style.
We’re
not sure how well it will work with strapless bras, but for
just $12, it’s worth giving it a try!
Whatever your dress, the most important rule of buying bridal
lingerie is to focus on comfort and support first--and looks
later.
We’ve tried to choose beautiful lingerie to suit your
gorgeous gowns, but it won’t matter how amazing your lingerie
looks if you’re constantly adjusting it on your wedding
day.
Choose comfort first and remember… you can always change
before your wedding night (and that just gives you an excuse
to buy more lingerie)!
