You Can Do It!
Practical ways to stick to your new workout routine.
By Melissa Williams of ChicBlvd.com
OK,
so you got through the holidays and maybe aren’t
feeling as trim as you hoped, but don’t despair, there
is hope to get in shape this year! One of the biggest
mistakes that people make when planning their fitness routines
for the year is simply not planning ahead, so let’s focus
on some real ways to stick to it!
First
of all, if you don’t like to run then
don’t run! That being the over
simplified way of saying, don’t plan on doing exercise
that you don’t actually like. Nowadays there
are so many ways to get in shape that a girl has a right
to do something she enjoys! If you are an outdoors
person try hiking or jogging, if you prefer the comfort of
your own home get some kickboxing videos and some hand weights, The
possibilities are endless when it comes to creating an amazing
fitness routine.
Secondly, schedule your workouts into your weekly
routine! You may have the best intentions
of getting to the gym 3 times per week, but if you don’t
actually get in on your calendar you will soon find it is
the first thing to get brushed aside when your schedule gets
crazy. Remember, just like all appointments you have,
this one is very important! This is an appointment
with yourself to feel better and stay healthy! You
wouldn’t brush aside an important meeting with your
boss or your doctor, so don’t miss your date with you!
Another way to help yourself get on the right track
is to schedule a few meetings with a personal trainer. While
it may be out of your budget to work out with a trainer on
a regular basis, a few sessions could really save you a lot
of time and could prevent a possible injury if you are not
used to working out! If you decide to schedule an appointment
with a trainer meet with him or her first to make sure you
feel comfortable with their style and personality. You
should feel completely comfortable to ask questions and also
to express any concerns or reveal any health issues that
the trainer will need to know about before building your
routine.
If you find yourself still unmotivated to stick to
your workout plan then work with the buddy system! Find
a friend who shares your passion (or lack of it) for working
out and encourage each other! It will make your workouts
more enjoyable to have someone to talk to and you can help
spot each other at the gym. If you don’t have
a friend who is interested in joining you in your fitness
pursuit then join a workout class at the gym. You will be
in a class full of people who are all trying to get in shape
and you are bound to find a buddy or two to work out with!
While a personal trainer can help you build a routine
that is sure to build results you can create your own routine
as well (provided you have some experience with working out). Make
sure you factor in the three basic groups of exercise each
week: Strength Training, Cardio Conditioning and Flexibility
Work.
Lastly,
please remember to always be safe when working out. If
you find yourself slacking a bit don’t beat yourself
up about it. Everyday is a new day to create a happier,
healthier you! Take advantage of it!
