Work:
Don't take it "to go!"
By Lynne Riffenburgh
We all know the feeling – it's been a long day at
work, and leaving can be a battle. When there's still so
much to do, or a co-worker really got on your nerves, or
you feel frustrated with the way the day went, how can
a girl even think about relaxing with the family or her
roomies?
But
don't despair just yet – there are some things you
can do before you even leave the office to help you leave work
there, rather than bringing it home with you.
Get the munchies: Bring a healthy snack
and a bottle of water to eat at the end of the day. Often,
we get irritable as a result of hunger. The best way to maintain
a happy mood for your evening at home is to stay full and
hydrated!
Take 10: Ten minutes prior to leaving, tie
up any loose ends, organize your desk, and take a bathroom
break. Waiting until the last minute can cause you to forget
things and feel rushed.
Write it down: If you're in the middle of
a project, jot a quick note on its status so you can pick
up tomorrow right where you left off. Write down anything
you have to do that may distract you at home. If you write
it down, then you know you won't forget it, and you can stop
thinking about it for the evening.
Unwind: Whether your drive home is ten minutes
or two hours, take some time to relax. Breathe deeply, listen
to your favorite tunes – maybe even turn the music
up and sing along. Try not to focus on traffic or make phone
calls. Give yourself time to reflect and wind down from a
day of stress and activity.
And finally, enjoy your evening! Sometimes,
just making a choice to ignore thoughts of work and have
a good time can be the ticket to a perfect evening at home.
Choose to set work aside until the next day, because there
is always tomorrow!
