So Little Time…So
Many Hats
Living a fulfilled and balanced life while learning
when to say "No."
By Lara Davis
Women these days wear a lot of hats - Mothers, Sisters,
Wives, Employees, Friends, etc.
How do they find time to do it all? Learning to live a
fulfilled and balanced life and learning when to say "No" is
essential these days. The question is, what is most important
in your life?
I heard somewhere that life was like a game of juggling
five balls. The balls are called work, family, friends,
health and integrity and the objective is to keep them
all in the air. And one day you come to understand that
work is a rubber ball. When dropped it can bounce back.
The rest of the balls are glass. When dropped they can
get scuffed, nicked, broken apart and may even shatter.
Reminding yourself daily of your true priorities and focusing
on what can't be "dropped" is what's precious.
Treat them with tender care.
So, how do you balance your priorities when everything
feels important? Start with small steps. One of my friends
and I have a favorite saying and we remind each other of
its importance all the time: "How do you eat an elephant?" One
bite at a time. This is how every relationship and goal
should be accomplished, one step at a time. Happiness and
success never comes in one day, but in many small steps.
In your everyday life, how do you face tensions, and sometimes
overwhelming stress? How do you manage everyday priorities?
What are some ways you find time for yourself? How do you
manage your stress? What is important to you? Take the
time to enjoy your priorities in life and make them just
that…a priority.
