that is the question…
Should you give online dating a try?

In
today’s technologically savvy age it is not surprising
that more and more people are turning to the internet
to help them find a mate. If you are one of the
many who have looked for love online it is nice to
know you are not alone. If you have been skeptical
as to whether or not to give online dating a chance
here are some things to keep in mind.
Online
dating can provide you with a way to weed out the bad
guys sooner- While there are many people on dating
sites who pretend to be something they are not, there
is something to be said for getting to know a potential
date over the phone and through emails before actually
getting together. This allows you time to get
to know someone’s personality without allowing
physical attraction and the excitement of a new date
to cloud your thinking in deciding whether or not this
person might be a good fit for you.
Online
dating can expand your horizons- You might be
searching for a particular type of guy and be found
by someone great who you might have passed by had he
not sent you an email. Not only does online dating
open up the possibilities of the types of guys you
might meet, you also have a chance to meet guys from
other locations if you are up for it!
Online
dating can improve your social skills- If you tend
to be shy and find approaching a stranger hard to do,
online dating can help you feel more confident and
give you a chance to build some communication skills
from the comfort of your own home computer! You
will get experience talking with various men, and will
most likely learn how to politely say no to those who
don’t strike your fancy.
While
online dating can have some positive effects on your
social calendar there are some safety tips that should
be kept in mind.
First
of all, never meet up with someone at his house or
allow him to pick you up at your home. You should
always meet in a public place such as a local coffee-shop
and let others know where you are going and when you
plan to return.
Secondly,
never give out personal information about where you
live, work, or anything else of a personal nature. If
possible, you should always be the first one to call
a potential online date and should use a blocked phone
number in case this person turns out to be someone
you wouldn’t want to hear from again.
Lastly,
remember that while online dating can lead to some
lasting and meaningful relationships there are people
out there who will take advantage of the anonymity
that comes with an online profile. Always make
sure you know who you are dealing with. Do an
internet search on your potential date’s name
and see if the information he has provided you about
himself is correct. If you live in California
look up the guy’s name on the Meagan’s
law website which lists registered sex offenders. Always
keep in mind that even if a guy checks out ok, you
should still take caution with meeting and giving out
personal information.
Good
luck on your search!
